Pow Wow this weekend
The Alexander First Nation KIPOHTAKAW Annual Traditional Pow-Wow is being held this weekend – July 2 – 4. On Friday night there will be a mini round dance to get things started, but Saturday is the big day with the Grand Entry set for 1 p.m. and dancing continuing throughout the day. Sunday repeats the schedule with the Grand Entry again beginning at 1 p.m.
If you are new to the community, you should not miss the opportunity to take the short drive to Alexander and enjoy a day or two of First Nations culture and heritage.
Free Compost Day
Sturgeon County is teaming up with the Roseridge Landfill to offer free compost to residents July 5 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Those wishing to participate must present their landfill permit prior to loading up with compost and one load per permit is the limit.
A loader will be on hand for those hauling away their load by truck – those hauling it in other forms of transportation will have to load the compost themselves.
The Roseridge Landfill is located about two kilometres east of Morinville on SH 642 and south on Range Road 251.
Gibbons Canada Day
If you were in Gibbons for their Canada Day celebration you already know how the town put on an exceptional celebration. From the seniors breakfast at the Community Hall to the Legion barbecue, there was plenty for everyone to eat to give them energy for all the activities Gibbons had lined up for residents and visitors.
For those who missed the town’s celebration of true patriot love, we’ve put together a little gallery and video footage of the day’s highlights.
