Edmonton – The moment many Alberta hunters have been waiting for since the 2009 season closed is now here. The 2010 Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations have been published and are now available to help hunters prepare for the 2010 season.

Amendments to this year’s regulations increase hunting opportunities in a number of wildlife management units, particularly with respect to elk, white-tailed deer, antelope and migratory waterfowl.

Other changes to this year’s season include suspending hunters with unpaid hunting fines from being able to purchase hunting licence or applying for draws.

Once again this year, hunters will have the opportunity to purchase general and special licences online at AlbertaRelm.com. A Wildlife Identification Number (WIN) is required to purchase licence and hunters must register with the site to use the service.

Hunters who register with the site are also able to participate in the province’s annual Game Harvest Survey online. Fish and Wildlife will no longer be conducting the annual survey by telephone.

But while buying licences online is not new, this year’s hunting season has some changes in store for first-time resident hunters. New hunters will now be required to successfully complete the Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course (ACHEC) prior to hunting. In previous years, new hunters were given the option of taking the ACHEC or the Alberta Hunter Competency exam. Information about course enrolment can be found at aheia.com.

The 104-page 2010 Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations guides is available free of charge online at www.albertaregulations.ca/Hunting-Regs-2010.pdf or from licence issuers and Fish and Wildlife district offices. guides are available in Morinville at the Husky on 100 St.
