Sturgeon County– With the weather forecast calling for a reprieve from the past couple of days worth of rain, there is an excellent opportunity to take in some of the events going on this weekend and into next week.
Harvest Days ahead
Bon Accord will be holding its annual Harvest Days beginning tonight and continuing through until Sunday. The festival kicks off with a baseball tournament on the Friday night and launches into full gear Saturday with the Harvest Days Parade at 10 a.m. Once again this year the festival is bringing in Lord Strathcona’s Horse to put on a demonstration from 11:30 – 12:30 p.m. on the Saturday. Turf tearin’ time
The Morinville and District Ag. Society is teaming up with the Sturgeon Agriplex Society to put 30 riders atop 30 bulls Aug. 14. Professional bull riders from around the world will assemble at the annual event, looking to hang on and stay on as long as they can. During the half time, children will have the opportunity to emulate the bull riders during the mutton bustin’ segment. Admission to the event ranges from $6 for children aged 5-12 to $35 for a family of five.
Lions Club tournament
The Morinville Lions Club will take to the links Aug. 21 for their annual golf tournament in support of Camp He Ho Ha. The club is looking for approximately 60 golfers this year.
The cost for the tournament is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, golf cart and a steak barbecue dinner. The Lions club will also be selling mulligans at a cost of $5 each (maximum four per person) for those less-experienced golfers who want a bit of an edge.
Additionally, there will be a silent auction held throughout the day with the winners announced at the evening barbecue dinner; a feast that non-golfers can participate in at a cost of $25 per person.

Treaty Days
Alexander First Nation will be celebrating Treaty Days Aug. 21 on the Pow-Wow grounds from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tribal Councillor Bernard Paul said that there will be some drummers and traditional dancers performing and that the general public is welcome to come to the event.
Country Soul Stroll
The annual Country Soul Stroll has been underway for more than a month, but there are still a few weeks left during which you can take in the 10 venues in Sturgeon County.
