Car and train collide near Cardiff

Sturgeon County – A woman has been flown to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance after the vehicle she and a female passenger were travelling in collided with a train Thursday morning.

Morinville RCMP, together with EMS, fire and CN Police members responded to the incident around 8:30 a.m. in the Range Road 250 and Township Road 554 area southeast of Morinville near Cardiff.

It is anticipated that the driver will recover from her injuries. The female passenger was treated by EMS on scene for minor injuries.

RCMP report the railway crossing where the collision occurred is regulated by a stop sign and a railway crossing sign.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
