Morinville – With almost half the Noralta Junior C hockey season behind them, there appears to be little to stop the Morinville Titans as they rise ever higher in league dominance.

Currently sitting in third place in the 15-team league, the Titans’ undefeated streak was pushed to seven consecutive games Friday night when the club handily defeated the NEZ Northstars 6-3. The home-ice victory followed the Titans’ 7-3 win over the RCAC Rivermen Nov. 2 in Edmonton. The four-points earned last week bring the club’s point tally to 15 and their record to 6-1-3.

But not only is the team’s dominance on the ice attracting the attention of other teams in the league. The Titans’ ability to ripple the mesh and win hockey games is attracting some attention from teams in other leagues as well. Over the past month the Titans have reeled in two former Morinville Jets – Kevin-Lee Markle and – more recently – long-time Jets defenceman Nick McRae.

McRae opened scoring for the Titans during Friday night’s home-ice showdown against the Northstars, a team the Titans had tied with in their first outing this season. McRae picked up an unassisted goal at 11:24 in the first period and was followed a couple minutes later by Marty Hennessey to give the Titans a 2-1 lead over the Northstars heading into the second.

Second period game play saw the Titans add another two goals to their tally while keeping the Northstars off the board. The Titans almost repeated the formula in the final frame, adding another two goals to their 4-2 lead to drive the contest to 6-2. However, with just 3.9 seconds left in the game, the Northstars got one past Jordan Brand to diminish the margin of the Titans’ victory.

The Titans have a lighter schedule this week with one home game Sunday night against the 3-4-0 Edmonton Ice. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
