Careless driving ticket issued in bus collision

Sturgeon County – Morinville RCMP have issued the 70-year-old school bus driver whose bus was involved in a collision that sent two École Citadelle students to hospital Monday a ticket for careless driving. The accused, who has not been named by police, has the option of voluntarily paying the $402 fine or appearing in Morinville Provincial Court Feb. 8.

The collision took place at approximately 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at the intersection of Township Road 582 and Range Road 252, just east of Highway 2.

RCMP investigations Monday evening revealed the school bus proceeded through a yield sign westbound on Township road 582 when it was hit broad side by a south bound pick up truck travelling on Range Road 252.

A 12 year old male was transported to Hospital by STARS Air Ambulance and a 12 year old female was transported to hospital by ground ambulance. Both children are reported to be in stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.

The 23-year-old driver of the pick up and the 70-year-old bus driver were not injured in the collision. Six students were passengers on the bus at the time of the collision.
