Jets shut out in Sherwood Park

By Stephen Dafoe

Morinville – For the first time this season, the Morinville Jets have ended a game scoreless. Tuesday night’s 4-0 loss to the Sherwood Park Knights, the Jets first contest against the CJHL’s fifth-ranked team this season, pushed the Jets to fifth slot in the West Division and eighth spot in the league overall.

Although the Knight’s dominated the scoring, none of Sherwood Park’s goals were scored on the power play, a situation that has not always been the case this season as the Jets have struggled to keep out of the box.

The Knights ended the first period Tuesday night with a 3-0 lead heading into the middle frame but were denied all but one scoring opportunity during the second period. Third period game play saw each of the Knights’ scoring chances denied.

The Jets picked up seven infractions Tuesday night for a total of 22 minutes in the sin bin.

The club has another tough game ahead of them this weekend when they take on the 16-4-5 Beverly Warriors Friday night.

The Warriors, currently toping the West Division and holding second spot in the league overall, have come up against the Jets three times this season, each outing ending in a defeat for the Jets. The last encounter was Nov. 21’s road game, which saw the warriors defeating the Jets 7-1.

Game time for Friday night’s home-ice rematch is 8:30 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
