Morinville – The Morinville Titans earned another win Saturday night, pulling off a 3-1 victory over the 5-8-1 Seera Icemen, currently ranked in 10th place in the Noralta Junior C Hockey League. The victory brings the Titans’ record to 13-3-3 on the season and ends 2010 on an up note for the club.

Although the Icemen outshot the Titans 9-7 in the opening frame, the Titans were the only club to score during the period. The Titans played shorthanded through four powerplay advantages for Icemen, including a five-on-three advantage. With 38.9 seconds left in the period, Nick Borle pocketed one during the Titans only powerplay advantage of the period.

The middle frame saw the Titans return to the ice determined to move the game further in their favour. Titans Assistant Coach Mike Boekestyn said he felt the fast-paced period contained the biggest hits of the season.

The Titans picked up their second at 14:55, and although the Icemen answered back with one of their own 13 seconds later, the Titans came back with their third, scored on the powerplay at 7:56.

Third period game play saw both sides scoreless despite both clubs having a wealth of scoring opportunities.

Saturday night’s contest was the last of 2010 for the Titans. The club next takes to home ice Jan. 7 to face off against the SWZ Oil Kings. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
