Titans win one, tie one, lose one

Morinville – The Morinville Titans (16-6-4) ran the gamut of game outcomes over the weekend. The club started off last Thursday night with a 3-2 win over the Seera Stealth, followed it up with a 5-5 tie against the Wabamun Wings Saturday night and ended the weekend with a 5-2 home-ice defeat at the hands of the Stealth.

Sunday night’s home-ice contest was a difficult one for the Titans. After breaking a 2-2 tie to win the contest with just three minutes left in the game Jan. 27, the Stealth came to Morinville determined to pick up the two points they lost.

The Stealth accumulated two goals early in the opening frame, and although Allen White pocketed one for the Titans during the second half of the period, it was answered with seconds left in the frame, giving the Stealth a 3-1 lead heading into the second.

Although the Titans were the only side to score during the second period, Yanick Forcade’s contribution midway through the frame still left the Titans trailing by one.

Where the Stealth were denied during the second period, it was the Titans who were prevented from rippling the mesh in the third. A series of penalties left the Titans a little understaffed on the ice for much of the period, a situation that allowed the Stealth to pick up another two goals, depriving the Titans of another two points in Noralta standings.

With three out of a possible six points picked up over the weekend, the Titans are positioned in fourth slot in the Noralta Junior Hockey League standings, one point behind the SWZ Oil Kings and two points ahead of the Seera Stealth.

The club’s next contest is a home game Friday night at 7 p.m. when they will take on the 7-15-3 Millett Lightning. The Titans’ final regular season game is a home game Feb. 13 against the 0-23-0 Sherwood Park Renegades. The last pairing between the two ended in Sherwood Park forfeiting the game.
