Morinville – Although the Morinville Jets position in the opening round of Capital Junior Hockey League playoffs was determined Sunday with the club’s final regular season game, just who they would be facing off against was not decided until Wednesday night.

The Jets ended the 2010-2011 season with a 18-15-5 record and 41 points in the standings, giving them a third place finish in the league’s West Division.

Both the Beverly Warriors and North Edmonton Red Wings received a bye giving them a seat during the first round. Morinville’s third place finish meant the club would take on the division’s sixth-ranked team. However both the St. Albert Merchants and Edmonton Mustangs had not completed their final game.

Wednesday night saw the Merchants defeat the Beverly Warriors 7-5, giving them 39 points and fifth spot in the final standings. The Edmonton Mustangs defeated the Edmonton Royals 7-5 to give the Mustangs 38 points and sixth place.

Round one of playoffs will see the Jets taking on the Mustangs in a best-of-three series.

The first game is set for Friday night at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre with the puck dropping at 7:15. Game two will be played in Edmonton Sunday evening. If a third game is required, it will be played in Morinville next Wednesday night.
