Pet bylaw set for public meeting Tuesday night

Cat owners who let their cats roam free in Morinville neighbourhoods could face a $120 fine once Morinville’s Responsible Pet Ownership bylaw is passed. Cats accounted for the bulk of resident animal complaints in 2010.

Morinville – Although the media circus may be over with respect to elephants and armadillos, Morinville’s Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, which passed first reading Jan. 25, is on the agenda for the Morinville Town Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday night.

Although the Municipal government Act does not require council to hold a public hearing on bylaws, council unanimously agreed to invite the public to a public meeting regarding the bylaw.

The meeting will take place Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, upstairs at St. Germain Plaza on 100 Avenue.
