Former MP Walter Van De Walle deceased

Legal – Former MP and Legal resident Walter Van De Walle passed away Apr. 21 at the age of 88.

Van De Walle was MP from 1986-1988 for Pembina and from 1988–1993 for St. Albert. He chose not to run again in the 1993 federal election.

Prior to serving as a Member of Parliament, Mr. Van De Walle served as a school trustee for Sturgeon School Division (1958-1965) and as a member of Sturgeon County Council from 1959 – 1977.

Mr. Van De Walle’s dedication to public service was recently commemorated in Legal’s most recent francophone mural, unveiled in a special ceremony Mar. 21.

Van De Walle is survived by his wife, four children and nine grand children. Mr. Van De Walle is the father of Morinville councillor Ben Van De Walle.

His funeral is scheduled to take place at St. Albert Catholic Church Apr. 28.

  1. I knew him to be a kind, warm man. One who would smile easily.
    I sought advice from him on occasion and will miss seeing him around.
