Around the Town – St. Jean Baptiste Edition

Morinville – Festival week was officially proclaimed by Morinville Mayor Lloyd Bertschi following the conclusion of council’s Committee of the Whole Meeting Tuesday night. St. Jean Baptiste Festival kicked off Tuesday evening with the first of five concerts at the newly-opened Morinville community Cultural Centre. Elsewhere around town preparations are being made for the weekend’s festivities.

Ice cream worthy of dancing about - Four friends of the Ice Hut do a dance number Tuesday evening to attract customers to the ice cream stand located across from Sobeys. The popular ice cream shop will be open during St. Jean Baptiste Festival weekend, offering visitors an opportunity to sample a variety of ice cream.
Ready to rock 'n'' ride - A Wild Rose Shows worker puts the finishing touches on one of the rides that will be set in motion this weekend. The popular midway kicks into gear Friday night with their Rock ‘N’ Ride, beginning at 4 p.m. and running until midnight, children will be able to ride all night for $20. Wrist bands are available at Noah’s Ark Pets and Supplies in Morinville and Divinely Inspired Design Studio in Gibbons. The midway is located in the Morinville Parish parking lot this year.

On the move
Morinville Public Librarian Margaret Meetsma packs books at the Morinville Public Library Tuesday afternoon. The library will be moving to the Morinville Parish in mid-July along with the Town offices to the Morinville Parish. Renovations to the Civic Plaza will run from July until late December or early January 2011. The $3 million project will see a renovated building and expanded library area.
