Morinville – The Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig summer blockbuster Cowboys and Aliens may be coming to area theatres July 29 but the man who co-wrote the graphic novel upon which the movie is based is coming to Morinville the night before.

The Morinville Public Library will kick off its 2011 Centennial Author Series with a visit from Edmonton comic writer Andrew Foley who, in addition to co-writing the New York Times Bestselling graphic novel Cowboys & Aliens, has also written a number of other comics, including Parting Ways and The Holiday Men. Foley has also teamed up with award-winning artist Fiona Staples to create the critically acclaimed Done to Death series, a send up of the vampire genre set be released in trade paperback format by IDW Publishing this September.

Foley, who will talk about comic writing in general and the creation of Cowboys and Aliens in particular, will be joined by comic book expert and entrepreneur Jay Bardyla who will speak about the history of the sequential art medium. Additionally, the evening of comic talks and talent will provide some visual bonuses with the addition of professional comic book artists who will demonstrate their talents.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. on July 28 at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. Admission to the arts and culture event is free.

The Morinville Public Library received a Town of Morinville Centennial Grant earlier this year to fund a series of author talks that would cover a variety of literary genres popular throughout the various decades of the past century. Other literary forms to be covered during the remainder of the series include mystery, children’s fiction, nonfiction and a writer’s workshop.
