Jets play final games of year next week

Morinville – The Jets play their final two games of the 2011 calendar year next week and will enter 2012 with just 12 games left in the season. The past couple of games notwithstanding, the club has done phenomenally well this season. Two thirds of the way through their 38-game season, the Jets hold strongly to first place in the West Division pecking order and have earned a respectable third place in the league overall, although recent losses have allowed the Edmonton Royals to share that spot.

Although there have been some recent disappointments, including the Jets 4-1 loss to the North Edmonton Red Wings Wednesday night and previous 3-1 loss to the visiting St. Albert Merchants Dec. 4, the Jets have proven they are a tough team to beat, particularly when they stay out of the penalty box.

Wednesday night’s 4-1 loss to the North Edmonton Red Wings brought the Jets to a 15-6-2 record this season, a marked increase from the .500 hockey the club hovered around for much of the 2010-2011season.

The Jets play the Edmonton Mustangs in Morinville Sunday night at 6:45 p.m. The club take to the road Dec. 14 for another match against the Red Wings. The Jets returns home Dec. 16 for a Friday night game against the visiting Strathcona Bruins. Game time is 8:30 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre. The Jets will then take a couple weeks off, returning to the ice for a Jan. 6 road game against the Leduc Schwab Riggers.
