Morinville – A century ago it would not be uncommon to see the odd bit of branded cattle wandering up what is now 100 Avenue / Highway 642. A century later and both ends of the street got a little branding Dec. 16 when Landale Signs installed two of four signs the Town of Morinville authorized earlier this year.

Council had been presented with two designs using the community’sstylized M branding logo and slogan – Growing Together – at its June 14 meeting. With six of seven members of council present, a 3-3 tie emerged, prompting council to put the vote to residents via its website. Morinvillenews.com also polled its readers over a one-week period – the combined results ended up with a 103-44 vote for the design installed six months later.

Morinville Town Council had authorized $75,000 in its 2011 budget to replace town signs this year; however, costs of the proposed four signs came in significantly higher than anticipated. As a result, the signs would be phased in with two planned for 2011 and another two in 2013 after the Cardiff Road overpass is completed.

The two signs placed Dec. 13 are located at Morinville’s east and west boundaries along Hwy 642. Morinville is planning on placing four entrance signs and two secondary signs as part of the brand rollout and implementation. The largest sign will ultimately be placed at Cardiff Road and Highway 2. A nother sign will be placed on the south walking trails on the west side of 100 Street. This sign has also been postponed until 2013. The west boundary sign on Hwy 642 installed Dec. 13 replaces Morinville’s outdated amenities sign.
