New Year, new vandalism
Approximately $1,000 in Christmas ornaments were stolen or damaged at a 99 Avenue residence in Morinville during the early morning hours New Year’s Day.
Morinville RCMP received a complaint the same day from a Gibbons man, indicating the brake lines on his 2011 Dodge ram had been cut and that he believed the mischief to his truck was done in the early morning of Jan. 1. RCMP received a similar complaint Jan. 2 from another Gibbons man who indicated the brake lines on his Ford F250 were cut. The complainant believed the damage was also done in the early morning of Jan. 1. Both complainants live in the area of 51 Street and 53 A Avenue in Gibbons.
RCMP report an abnormal amount of nuisance crime has occurred in and around the area over the past few months and police are asking for public assistance in helping put mischief crimes to a stop.
Older crimes remain unsolved
Sometime between the hours of 12 and 1 a.m. Nov.17, 2011 unknown individual(s) fired several shots at a building located at the SBA Communications site on Township Road 554 just west of Highway No. 2. Several rounds were shot at the building and the lock on the perimeter fence was also shot. RCMP believes the incident was random.
Another crime police are turning to the public for help on occurred sometime between the evening of Nov. 18, 2011 and the early morning of Nov. 19, 2011. Eight vehicles were vandalized along 51 Street between Lunnon Drive and 44 Avenue in Gibbons. The mirrors of all eight vehicles were pushed in or knocked off. Police have no suspects at this time.
Police are asking for the help of the public in solving these crimes. Police grateful to crime prevention partners
The RCMP are extending their thanks and appreciation to the volunteer organizations who are helping keep communities and neighbourhoods safe.
These organizations are constantly looking for help and new members. Morinville RCMP are encouraging residents to take an active role and contact the detachment for information on Citizen on Patrol, Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch and the other great programs in the communities the detachment serves.
