Jets topple Knights

By Stephen Dafoe

Morinville – The Morinville Jets gave the Sherwood Park Knights their second defeat in as many outings Sunday night. The Jets 6-3 win over the league-leading Knights was the club’s third consecutive win and put a cap on a six-point week. Earlier in the week the Jets defeated the Edmonton Royals 6-2 and the Flyers 5-1.

Sunday night’s home-ice contest saw the Jets build from a 3-1 lead at the end of the opening frame to a 5-3 lead at the end of the second period. Although the Knights bounced back in the second period to come within two, neither side was able to capitalize on their chances for most of the third period. The Jets added one to their tally with three minutes left in the game and held that position to win 6-3.

The win is the Jets fourth consecutive victory and their third consecutive obtained in regulation time. With a 21-8-2 record this season, the Jets have achieved 44 points, a tally that maintains their top spot in the CJHL’s West Division and positions them in a tie for third place in the league overall.

The club travels to Spruce Grove Friday night to take on the Regals and return home for a Sunday night game against the Wetaskiwin Icemen, the club whom the Jets are tied with for third slot in CJHL rankings. Game time for the Jan. 22 game is 6:45 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
