Around the Town – cold week edition

Compiled by Lucie Roy

A cold week didn’t entirely stop things going on in Morinville and area. Here are some photos our lenses caught this week.

It’s show time
Aspen House resident Jeanne Forest played piano and entertained staff and other residents on Monday afternoon. Forrest likes cheering up people. When the weather outside is frightful the music inside is quite delightful.

The road ahead
Sturgeon County Councillors Tom Flynn and Joe Milligan stand by a concept of Township Road 554 (Cardiff Road) looking west. The drawing was part of a public information session held Jan. 17 at the Sturgeon County Centre to give residents an opportunity to learn more about the reconstruction of the road. The project will run west of Range Road 251 to Highway 28, approximately 6.63 kilometres. The project ‘s scope includes asphalt, concrete and paving, and slightly changing the entrance to the Sturgeon Agriplex. The project is tentatively set to start July 1 with a completion date of no later than Aug. 15, 2013. Members of the firm Stewart, Weir, & Co. Ltd were also on hand to answer resident questions. – Lucie Roy Photo

Giving again…and again
Morinville Knights of Columbus member Frank Vollmer assisted blood donor Doug MacArthur at the Blood Donor Clinic held Jan. 17 at the Senior’s Rendez-Vous Centre. The donation was MacArthur’s 126th. Vollmer has volunteered 15 years with the Knights of Columbus assisting with the Blood Drive. Approximately.120 people were booked to donate blood although the cold weather lead to some cancellations. The next clinic is scheduled for Feb. 14.
