Morinville – The Morinville Community High School Lady Wolves take to the court this weekend for the 2012 Lady Wolves Invitational Basketball tournament running Friday and Saturday at MCHS.

Coach Kent Lessard said the team is currently ranked in the top 15 provincially for 3A teams and are presently in the number 2 spot in the North Central Zone. “The team has placed second at their last two tournaments and are hoping to win it all this weekend,” Lessard said. “In order to accomplish that, the Lady Wolves must defeat the Edwin Parr Predators who they lost to in the final of their tourney by two [points] in December.”

There are eight teams competing in the weekend tournament. The Lady Wolves are joined by John Maland, Holy Rosary, R. F. Staples, Edwin Parr, Frank Maddock, Holy Redeemer and Beaumont.

The Lady Wolves’ first game is against John Maland from Devon at 2 p.m. on Friday. If they are victorious in that contest they will take to the court again at noon on Saturday, taking on the winner of Friday’s game between Holy Rosary and R. F. Staples. A further win would place them in the semi-final at 5:30. The tournament finals are set for 7 p.m.
