Morinville – The Morinville Community High School Lady Wolves basketball team’s 56-25 victory over the visiting Holy Redeemer High School Rebels Saturday night gave the Morinville girls the gold in their invitational tournament.

The Lady Wolves ended the opening quarter of the tournament final with a three-point lead over the Rebels at 15-13, but poured in on during the second to end the first half of the game leading 32-15. By the end of the third quarter Morinville built their lead to 48-23, and managed to give up only two points in the final quarter to the Raiders.

The team started the weekend invitational tournament on Friday afternoon with a 51-36 victory over the John Malland Wildcats in a game that saw Lady Wolves Captain Rebecca Dubord pick up 24 of Morinville’s 51 points.

The Lady Wolves next took on the Holy Rosary Raiders Saturday at noon and ended the contest with an impressive 59-22 decision that placed them in Saturday night’s tournament final.

Heading into the weekend’s games, Coach Kent Lessard said the Lady Wolves are currently ranked in the top 15 provincially for 3A teams and are presently in the number two spot in the North Central Zone.
