Charges laid in Morinville murder

Morinville – RCMP along with Edmonton Major Crimes have laid charges in the death of Alexander resident Morgan Arcand-Faithful.

21-year-old Elias Simon, 21 of Morinville is charged with one count of second degree murder and has been remanded in custody. Simon is scheduled to appear on Apr. 12 at Provincial Court in Morinville.

Police had received a report of a street fight in Morinville around 11:05 p.m. Apr. 4 on 103 Street in the area of Biddescombe Glass. On their arrival, they found a young male with a visible wound. Arcand-Faithful was treated by ambulance personnel but pronounced dead on the scene.

An autopsy conducted Thursday lead the Medical Examiner to rule the death a homicide. The cause of Mr. Arcand-Faithful’s death has not been revealed by police to date.

The Morinville RCMP are asking any persons who may have seen Mr Arcand-Faithful or Elias Simon on the evening of Apr. 4 to contact the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4550.

The homicide is the second investigated by the Morinville Detachment in the past year. In March of 2011 a suspicious death in Gibbons was declared a homicide. Three men, including a Morinville man, were later charged in relation to the incident. In April of 2009 Morinville resident Jessica Martel was murdered by her common law husband.
