Speed sign shot at

Sturgeon County – There have been more than a few people who have shot by speed signs in the area. Now Morinville RCMP are looking for those who took a shot at a speed sign. Police received a complaint someone was shooting at a speed sign with a shotgun in the Hamlet of Mearns, located on Range Road 263 and Township Road 564. The incident occurred Apr. 9.

Police say the individual(s) were seen leaving the scene in a dark blue SUV, possibly a GMC Jimmy. Witnesses were unable to obtain a licence plate number for the vehicle.

This is the second incident of speed sign vandalism in recent weeks. Sometime on the evening of Mar. 21 the two speed education signs on 100 Avenue in Morinville were damaged by unknown individual(s). The two signs that show motorists how fast they are travelling were valued at approximately $10,000. They have since been replaced.
