By Morinville News Staff

St. Albert – Two Morinville residents have each been charged with one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000. Charged is 28-year-old Shawn Iain Botly and 19-year-old Megan Florence Thomas.

St. Albert RCMP Drug Unit arrested and charged the two Morinville residents May 4 as the result of a short term drug investigation.

During the arrest, RCMP officers discovered cash and cocaine. Approximately 9 grams of powder and crack cocaine were seized from within the vehicle along with approximately $1,000 cash. Police are alleging the cash to be proceeds of crime. Additionally, a 2005 Kia Magentis was seized as offence-related property.

Police say information received from the public was instrumental in the success of the investigation.

The accused were released and are scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court June 4.
