Sturgeon County under fire ban

Sturgeon County – Dry and windy conditions have prompted Sturgeon County to issue a full burning ban as of 1 p.m. Thursday. Any fires currently burning must be extinguished immediately.

The ban covers all open fires, including campfires, open fires used for cooking and warmth and all burning barrels.

Effective immediately, no fire permits will be issued and all previously issued permits are now void.

The fire ban applies to all property, both private and public since wildfires can run from property to property.
Any person found to have started a fire during the ban may be charged under provincial statutes or County bylaw
or both.

Operators of Off-Highway Vehicles are reminded to use extreme caution when driving through wooded areas
and to ensure that a spark arrester is attached properly and that debris has been removed from the engine area
and exhaust.
