Town and County keep seniors reading

Morinville – Seniors Week (June 4 – 10) will come with a gift from Morinville Town Council and Sturgeon County Councils again this year. Both councils voted unanimously in their respective meetings May 22 to once again provide seniors aged 65 and older with free library cards. All the senior needs to do is visit the Morinville Public Library and take out or renew their membership. The fee will be covered by the seniors’ respective municipality.

This year marks the third year Sturgeon County has honoured its seniors with free library memberships. It is Morinville’s second year supporting seniors in this way.

Morinville Public Library Manager Isabelle Cramp said she was pleased with the decision. “It’s really great again this year that Sturgeon County Council and Morinville Council have sponsored seniors’ cards in honour of Seniors’ Week,” she said. “Our seniors are always so grateful and so happy to receive their library card. For us we are really seeing the benefits by seeing the smiling faces when they come in and hear they can get a card on behalf of Morinville Council and Sturgeon County Council.”

Although the library, currently located in the basement of the Parish Hall, is scheduled to move after Seniors Week, Cramp said the deal will be honoured at a later date in the event the library move occurs during Seniors’ Week.
