Morinville – The Rotary Spray Park was the venue for a community carnival Saturday, put on by the Morinville Public Elementary School’s parent fundraising group. Approximately 500 parents and children attended the 4-hour event.
In addition to performances by Kip the Court Jester, an appearance by the A&W Root Bear and photo ops with DJ Krissy Swift, local community groups were on hand to provide info on what they do.
A highlight of the carnival was the dunk tank sponsored by The Morinville News. For a dollar a ball, attendees had the opportunity to dunk a number of locals who had it coming to them. Local dunkees included Community Peace Officer Eric Nicholson, MPES Principal Wayne Rufiange, Paul Smith, Valerie and Travis Loseth, Morinville News Editor Stephen Dafoe, and DJ Krissy Swift. The dunk tank raised a total of $700.
“The dunkees are an amazing bunch of individuals who do a lot for our community,” said Eva Scrimshaw, one of the event’s organizers. “We are extremely happy and grateful with the turnout. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Everyone was having such a blast.”

My young grand-daughter and I both had a great time at this event. I would like to thank all the people who gave up their their Saturday to put on such a fun, community-minded event. Special thanks go out to those in the dunk tank as it was a bit cool at times. My only regret is that I missed Paul Smith and his guitar. We need more town spirit like that. I hope MPES makes this an annual event.
