Youth in Action looking to fill a bus

Morinville – Inspired by motivational speaker Robb Nash’s presentation last week, Morinville Community High School’s Youth in Action Committee have decided to do a big blow out act of charity to end the school year.

“We decided to help raise awareness of the Youth Empowerment and Support Services,” said Morinville’s youth worker, A.D. Richardson. “They wanted to collect clothes because it’s the changing of the seasons.”

Richardson said two months ago a couple of adult residents filled her hatchback four times over with donations for the youth shelter. This time they are hoping to increase that giving many times over by filling the Morinville Community Bus.

Drop boxes will be at MCHS, Georges H. Primeau Middle School and the Morinville Community Cultural Centre between June 5 and 12, at which time all donations will be taken to Youth Empowerment and Support Services in Edmonton. Richardson said community groups wishing to make a donation of clothing to the cause can call her at 780-939-7874 to arrange a pick up.

Richardson is pleased with the group’s decision to help other youth. “This was their idea,” she said. “A couple students brought it up, saying they wanted to do something for other youth who are in need. I think a lot of it came from hearing Robb Nash’s presentation last week. After his presentation they were all really revved up for it because it was so inspirational and really showed them that they can make a difference no matter what they do. I think that was one of the big messages he brought along.”

The youth worker said any type of clothing will be accepted. Adult and children’s clothing is welcomed as well as some youth wear adult-sized clothing and some of the youth in need have children to clothe.

Richardson said some Morinville youth will be taking the clothing to the organization with her on June 12.
