Legal – More than 50 guests and dignitaries attended a celebration honouring the 50th Anniversary of the Sturgeon Foundation. Residents from the Morinville Heritage Place Lodge, Redwater Diamond Spring Lodge, the St.
Albert Chateau Mission Court and North Ridge Lodge gathered for the afternoon of celebration at Chateau Sturgeon in Legal.

The afternoon included a piano performance by resident Kae Manning, accordion by Leo Charrois, comedian Dwight Johnson, and a special acknowledgment of Legal Lodge resident Rose Savard who was a former matron there for eight years.

Sturgeon Foundation Executive Director Dennis Magnussen, Mayor and Sturgeon Foundation Board member Lisa Magera and Board Chair Paul Krauskopf were among the attendees.

The Sturgeon Foundation began Apr. 30, 1962 and Chateau Sturgeon opened in July of that year. The Chateau Sturgeon Lodge in Legal was the first Lodge to open and it was felt fitting to hold the celebrations at their location. The Chateau Sturgeon Lodge will hold their 50th anniversary celebration at a later date with a barbecue.

The Sturgeon Foundation is also holding a 50th Anniversary Fundraiser Gala at the Morinville community Cultural Centre Oct. 25.

Chateau Sturgeon Lodge residents Clem Coulombe and Alpheda Morin performed the cake cutting at the 50th Anniversary celebrations June 5.
