Coeur de Morinville Area Structure Plan (ASP)

The Coeur de Morinville Area Structure Plan project is underway! The Coeur de Morinville (“heart” of Morinville) ASP will provide policy direction for how Morinville’s Downtown, including the “main streets” (100 Avenue and 100 Street) and the neighbourhoods located directly behind, should develop and evolve over time. In particular, the ASP will:

Address aesthetics and design standards for streets, public spaces, and buildings in the Downtown.
Set policy for conserving historically significant structures in the Downtown and in older neighbourhoods adjacent to the Downtown.

Provide policy direction for sensitive development/redevelopment and infill in older neighbourhoods adjacent to the Downtown.

Set policy for using existing space and infrastructure more efficiently, namely through a mix of housing types and “mixed use” – residential and commercial uses in the same building or development.

You are invited to attend the first Open House for the ASP Project Thursday, June 14 from 7 – 9 PM at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. There will be a formal presentation at 7:30 PM followed by an open discussion.

For more information on this project, please contact the Town of Morinville Planning & Development Department, or visit the project website www.morinville.ca/coeur.

  1. Glad to see that the town is finally seeking a way ahead with regard to the upgrade of the down town core. The more businesses we have, the less taxes I potentially have to pay! My concern is with regard to 100 Ave in that it is a “provincial highway” and also our main street. How can we develop this main artery through town when Alberta Transportation will not even let us put pedestrian crosswalks / safety lights to protect those trying to cross the streets to access various businesses? According to town management, their hands are tied with regard to safety development in this area because this road is owned by the Province! Perhaps we should be developing another area away from 100 Ave, someplace where we (the town) would have full control?
    Just saying!
