Blood drive coming to town this month

By Morinville News Staff

Morinville – Canadian Blood Services are calling on Morinville and area residents to help fill appointment slots at this summer’s blood clinics. The next Morinville clinic is set for July 24 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Seniors’ Rendez-Vous Centre.

The organization is hoping to meet its targets this summer as the need for blood is constant. As the highways fill with summer vacationers, so too does the likelihood that accidents will occur. Canadian Blood Services figures indicate someone in a car accident requires blood and blood products from up to 50 donors.

Collecting donations can be a little trickier for the organization in the summer months as people are often on vacation and involved with outdoor activities. As such, donating blood may not always be on the top of their minds.

Healthy people can donate blood every 56 days, starting at age 17. First-time donors after the age of 61 or regular donors who want to continue donating after their 71st birthday will need to consult their doctor for medical permission to donate. Donors must feel well and are required to have their donor card or photo and signature I.D. at the time of donation.

For more information or to book an appointment to donate, donors are asked to call 1-888-236-6283.
