Letter: Legal has another big event coming

Editor,

We’re at it again! We (country) rocked your world with Small Town Saturday Night, and now we’re prepping for another party. The 50th anniversary of Legal’s Fete Au Village is right around the corner on July 27th and 28th. This annual weekend event draws people from near and far with a parade, family fun and the always entertaining demolition derby presented by the Legal Fire and Ambulance. No where else will you find a weekend of entertainment for only $3 admission.

Friday night kicks off with a children’s parade. Kid’s of all ages dress up and decorate their bikes, scooters, wagons or whatever else they want to march in and entertain the crowds up Main Street. From there they head to Parc Citadel for free hot dogs, kabobs, ice cream and entertainment. The chili cook off and beer gardens offer a great way to relax for the “big kids” but register you team early for the Tug o’ War or sit and cheer on the teams as they battle it out. We round out the evening at 9:00 with a family outdoor movie. The Pirates: Band of Misfits is coming to a baseball diamond near you. Come laugh your “booty” off with the kids at this hilarious animated movie starring Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek and Jeremy Piven.

Saturday morning we really lay out the red carpet. The gates open at 6:45 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast from the Legal Lions Club. Register now for our all ages Fun Run and enjoy the scenery of Legal as you walk, run or ride along our beautiful walking trails. At 10:30 plant yourself on Main Street for what is widely regarded as one of the best small town parades in Alberta. Keep your buckets ready to catch the candy as the demo cars, pipe bands and local business and club floats make their way down the street. On the Parc Citadel grounds we have entertainment for all ages. The Quarter Carnival, train rides and baseball games will thrill you until we celebrate our Fete’s fete at noon with cupcakes and a special dedication at the gazebo. You’ll be busy all afternoon with tons of games, pony rides, a dog show and the latest addition of a Show ‘n’ Shine and Soapbox Fun Derby.

The Demolition Derby kicks off at 2:30, but get there early to get your spot in the bleachers as the drivers smash and crash their way to the ultimate Fete bragging rights. Food is always on hand with the hamburger and candy booths but stick around to fill your plate with a beef roast at 5:00. We say good night to the kids with the Oil City Sound Machine playing at the gazebo until we go out with a bang at sunset with an amazing fireworks display.

Come on and celebrate with us July 27th and 28th in Legal. Where we are going back to our roots and putting the Unity back in Community.
