Morinville – A popular children’s performer will be appearing at the Morinville Community Library next week. Although many performers have appeared at the library over the years, this act could appear quite literally. Magician Brian Lehr is set to perform another interactive magic show Aug. 15. The 2 p.m. show is part of the Morinville Community Library’s Summer Reading Program.

“He a very talented magician,” said Summer Reading Program coordinator Rory Turner, adding the entertainer tailors his show to fit the reading program’s theme. “He has a story to go with it. I remember the first time I saw him was during the Jungle theme. He was going on an adventure and had a plane. He had his explorer’s hat and his khaki outfit.”

Rather than merely present a series of magic tricks for his audience, Lehr explores his magic a different way, crafting a story for children and their parents through which the conjuring is interwoven.  Previous years have seen the magician / comedian / story teller build a show around jungle and aquatic themes. With this year’s TD Summer Reading Program theme being called Imagine, Turner has no idea what audiences can expect beyond another solid afternoon of entertainment. “I’m very excited about this year because anything can go,” Turner said.

One thing that impresses the program coordinator is Lehr’s performance style. “He’s so funny, and I think making the kids really comfortable and making them laugh with everything he does is a real talent that makes all the kids feel like they are included in the show,” Turner said, adding the popular magician uses plenty of volunteers from the audience on his journey, often at his own expense. “He makes fun of himself so that the kids feel like they can play along with him in that way as well.”

The Aug. 15 performance will take place at 2 p.m. in the Morinville Community Library’s program room, located on the ground floor of St. Germain Place. For more information call 780-939-3292.
