Chavalier and Erik Soderstrom of JDR Insurance held a customer appreciation barbecue with all proceeds going to the Morinville Food Bank Society. Hunting party
This pair of Vespula consobrina (black jackets) wanders over a leaf on the shore of the pond looking for something to eat. The species, measuring 10 to 15 mm in length prefer forested areas and live prey.
Two birds with one lens
A willet skims the water of the fish pond over the weekend, casting a reflection in the waters. The long-legged and long-necked shore bird moves inland during breeding season.

Stromner completes marathon
Sturgeon county resident and avid runner Cali Stromner completed her first full marathon Sunday as a participant in the Edmonton Marathon. The Cardiff resident began running two years ago with a goal of running a full marathon before her 40th birthday Aug. 21. Sunday’s full marathon was an opportunity to achieve that goal set two years ago and to add another successful completion to her roster of races. Stromner completed the 42.2 kilometre run in just over six hours and said she was appreciative of the many volunteers who supported the runners as well as her husband and children who came out to cheer her on.
