Morinville – There’s a new hair team in Morinville looking to cut, trim and style their way into the hearts of Morinvillians. Moe and Maya Rahal recently opened M&M’s Hair Team Beauty Salon on 100 Street next to Kelli’s Deli and Bakery.

The couple met in Lac La Biche where Maya was working as a hair stylist with her brother and Moe was working in the camps as a cook. After moving to Edmonton and getting married, Moe left the cook business to become a barber. The couple worked at a shop in St. Albert where they found many of their customers were from Morinville.

“A lot of people went from Morinville to St. Albert to cut their hair,” Maya recalls, adding it prompted them to come to the community to check it out. “We saw this place and then we got into it.”

Maya said the decision to become her own boss and have her own shop was an easy one after many years of working for others. “I’d rather work for myself,” she said. “I’ve worked hard, too, and wanted to open my own shop.”

So far the experience of being a business owner in Morinville has been a good one. The shop and their attraction to Morinville grow with each passing day. “We really like it here,” Maya said. “We’re thinking of moving here. The people are really friendly. They’re all friendly and say hi.”

Moe said even when he and his wife were working in St. Albert they heard good things about the town from their customers and heard from many it was a safe community.

Team work at hand

While the salon caters to men, women and children, the couple each have their own specialty. Maya cuts men and women’s hair, while Moe specializes in just men. As such, the couple offer a full-service barber shop and salon service out of side-by-side chairs.
“We’re very friendly and we do a good job,” Maya said of the service she and her husband provide, adding their prices are reasonable. “We do walk-ins and we do all sorts of cuts.”

M&M’s Hair Team Beauty Salon is open six days a week – Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Later appointments are available by calling 780-572-0414.
