Edmonton – Albertans can pay their respects to former Premier Peter Lougheed at the Alberta Legislature Monday and Tuesday. Lougheed, who passed away Sept. 13 at the age of 84, will be lying in state in the rotunda of the Alberta Legislature in Edmonton and visitors may pay their respects from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
“Peter Lougheed held a special place in Albertans’ hearts, including mine as a dear friend and trusted mentor,” said Premier Alison Redford in a press release Friday. “And it’s important that the many Albertans who knew and admired him have the chance to say goodbye, and to reflect on his remarkable life and legacy.”
Albertans can share memories of Lougheed in an online tribute page that has been created at www.alberta.ca. Books of condolence will also be available for members of the public to sign between September 17 and September 28 at various locations in the province. One of those books will be located at the Alberta Legislature Rotunda, 107 Street and 97 Avenue in Edmonton.
