Rough week for the Morinville Jets

By Stephen Dafoe

Morinville – Two points in three outings is not the week the Morinville Jets wanted, but it is the week they got. After losses to the North Edmonton Red Wings and Spruce Grove Regals, the Jets returned to home ice Sunday night to defeat the Strathcona Bruins 6-2. Not a tough thing to do, given the Bruins basement-dwelling status in the CJHL’s East Division.

But tackling a club currently playing .300 hockey allowed the Jets to easily work their way through three periods, leading 3-0, 4-1 and 6-2 at the finish.

Sunday’s game was the only win of the week, a situation largely due to injuries and suspensions leaving the club’s bench a little light on skaters. The Jets were defeated 9-7 by the North Edmonton Red Wings Wednesday night and were humiliatingly defeated 8-1 in Spruce Grove Friday night.

With one win in three games last week, the Jets are sitting middle of the pack in the West Division, not a spot they need to be a third of the way through the season.

The Jets have two chances to turn things around this week. They take on the second-ranked Beverly Warriors Friday night on the road and return to Morinville to take on the 4-6-1 Edmonton Royals Sunday night. Game time for the Nov. 4 home game is 6:45 p.m.
