Catholic school district looking to create legacy for students

St. Albert – Greater St Albert Catholic Schools are looking for seven community members to be part of an initiative they believe will build better futures, one student at a time. The newly established Education Foundation for Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools will consist of nine members: one trustee volunteer, the district secretary-treasurer, and seven representatives from the public and school community.

“We are blessed with so many children in our district with tremendous potential. As a board it is our desire to provide them with many opportunities to enhance their educational and spiritual experience during the K – 12 journey with our district,” said Board Chair Rosaleen McEvoy in a release Monday.

The district is looking to fund enriched learning opportunities for a broad range of students, including funding access to programs for a family that could not otherwise afford to participate or supporting school initiatives that would see students participate in initiatives to support their community locally or globally.

Public donations are occasionally received by the district. It is believed the establishment of a Foundation will allow Greater St. Albert a more planned and focused approach to allocating funds to provide enriched opportunities for students.

Once the executive is established, a formal launch will occur. However, the first step for the Foundation will be recruiting residents from St. Albert, Morinville and Legal who are passionate about education through an awareness campaign. Interested community members are asked to contact the school district at 780- 459-7711 to find out more on how to become involved.
