Police busy with collisions

Sturgeon County – Morinville RCMP and volunteer firefighters have been busy responding to weather-related collisions.

Morinville RCMP were dispatched to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 37 near Range Road 244 in Sturgeon County around 8:20 a.m. Thursday morning. Upon arrival it was determined that an eastbound Chevrolet Blazer lost control and collided with a westbound Ford F-150. A westbound Dodge Ram then collided with the Chevrolet Blazer. As a result of the collision, the driver and lone occupant of the Blazer, an adult male, was transported via STARS ambulance to an Edmonton Hospital with undetermined injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the westbound Ford F-150 was also transported via ground ambulance with undetermined injuries. The driver of the third vehicle involved was not injured in the collision. A portion of Highway 37 was closed to allow police to conduct their investigation and for crews to deal with debris on the roadway. The road was reopened around 10:30 a.m.

Morinville RCMP were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 2, just north of Township Road 570 in Sturgeon County around 11:15 Thursday morning. Upon arrival it was determined that a southbound Nissan SUV lost control and collided with a northbound GMC Sierra 2500. The driver and lone occupant of the SUV, an adult female, was transported via ground ambulance to an Edmonton Hospital with undetermined injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the truck was also transported via ground ambulance with undetermined injuries.

Both collisions were still under investigation by our press deadline but police believe icy road conditions may have been a factor in both collisions.
