Morinville – The Jets were oh for two over the weekend, falling 3-1 to the Beaumont Chiefs Friday night and 3-2 to the St. Albert Merchants Sunday night.

The Jets ended the first and second periods Friday night in a 1-1 deadlock with the Chiefs. With 11 minutes left in the final frame Beaumont scored to shift the balance to 2-1 in their favour. Their third was sunk into an empty net after the Jets pulled their backstop for a chance to push the game to overtime.

Sunday was the first opportunity for the Jets to take on the Merchants in Morinville’s barn. The game did not go the way the club hoped. Trailing 1-0 at the end of the first, the Jets fell further behind in the middle frame, trailing 3-1 by the end of the period. Although the Jets rippled St. Albert’s mesh to bring it within one with 4:18 remaining in the game, they were unable to get the goal they needed to push the contest to overtime. The team now stands with a 10-6-0 record.

The Jets have a light load over the next couple weeks with only one game each week – both home-ice games. The Jets take on the Stony Plain Flyers Sunday night at 6:45 and return to the Ray McDonald Sports Centre for a Saturday night game against the Leduc Riggers Nov. 24. The Annual Alumni Game will precede the regular season game at 6 p.m.
