Parish overwhelmed by final number

Morinville – St. Jean Baptiste Parish has filed grant papers with the federal government for the matching dollars to raise a half million to fix the church’s steeple and related areas. After seven weeks of canvassing the community for a quarter million needed to apply for the grant, the People for the Steeple campaign had raised $262,000 – $10,000 more than had been hoped for.

That number rose even higher by the time the grant papers were filed Thursday night. As of Nov. 15, $343,538.97 has been raised by the cause and Simone Chevalier of the Parish said some money is still coming in. She and the other members of the Parish are overjoyed with the response from the community in saving the historic landmark’s steeple.

“We submitted the grant application online last night, so now we pray it will be accepted and for the full amount,” Chevalier told The Morinville News in an email Friday morning. “Simply an amazing Parish and Community.”
