Column: Looking for Work? Join the Club!

Career Employment and Counselling Services is excited to offer once again, our popular Job Club. The CECS Job Club is a chance for people who are looking for work to network and connect with other individuals who are experiencing the same challenges and experiences. It is facilitated by a qualified Employment and Career Counsellor who provides up to date information, tools and resources necessary for participants to be successful in their job search. Individuals who participate in a job finding club have varying backgrounds, experiences and skill sets that allows for sharing of ideas and perspectives. It’s a chance to develop friendships and support from other individuals who share a common goal.

The Job Club is a group setting which promotes mutual help and learning through the chance to practice skills learned, discuss options and to learn from other’s experiences. Networking with others is an excellent opportunity to learn of available positions, bounce ideas off others and to provide and receive feedback regarding employment strategies. Looking for work can be a frustrating process, but it doesn’t have to be. There is strength in numbers and becoming a part of a job club can offer much needed support, assistance and renewed optimism.

Our CECS Job Club Facilitator provides information on various employment topics including effective job search techniques, networking, cold calling, resume and cover letter development, how to ace a job interview, and navigating the internet for job leads just to name a few.

The CECS Job Club meets the first and third Wednesday of every month on a drop in basis. Attendance is not mandatory and there is no fee. The meetings are held from 9am – 11am at Kelley’s Deli and Bakery (9811 – 100 Street) in Morinville. Beverages and muffins are included. Please join us for the first start up meeting on November 21, 2012. For more information, please contact
