Morinville – After a string of injuries and some rough breaks, the Morinville Jets got a confidence booster Sunday night with a 2-1 overtime victory against the league-leading Spruce Grove Regals. Wayne Gatza earned the game-winning goal shortly after overtime began.

The Jets and Regals ended the opening frame scoreless and ended the second period with a goal apiece. The two clubs played the final 20 minutes without rippling each other’s mesh, the outcome decided in overtime.

Sunday night’s game is a big win for the Jets, who gave Spruce Grove their third loss this season. With 38 points, the Regals lead the Jets by 14 points in the CJHL’s West Division. The Jets are currently ranked in fourth slot, two points behind the St. Albert Merchants and three points behind the Beverly Warriors.

The Jets play one game this week – a home game Sunday night against the Beverly Warriors. Game time is 6:45 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
