Morinville Jets earn four points over weekend

Strathcona – The Morinville Jets took to the road Sunday afternoon, returning home with another two points for their troubles. After an impressive 10-2 victory over the visiting Edmonton Mustangs Friday night, the Jets had to push it to a 4-3 shoot out victory Sunday afternoon. Sunday’s win bring the Jets to a 19-11-0 record.

The club ended the first period Sunday leading the Bruins 3-1, but a rash of penalties in the middle frame allowed the Bruins to even the score to 3-3. The situation remained the same through the third period and overtime, driving the contest to a shootout.

Strong game Friday night

The club came out hard in the opening period Friday night to earn a 5-0 lead. Two of the Jets’ tally of goals was scored within nine seconds of one another and the fifth goal was scored with just 1.8 seconds left on the clock.The Mustangs finally lit their side of the board a minute into the middle frame, but the goal was answered by the Jets with 7:03 left on the clock to bring the score to 6-1. Third period game play saw the Jets increase their tally by another four, the Mustangs only one.
The Jets play two games this week – a Friday night road game against the Riggers and a Sunday night home game against the Flyers. Game time for Sunday’s match is 6:45 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
