Morinville – After an undefeated streak that ran for eight consecutive games in January, the Morinville Jets suffered back-to-back defeats over the weekend. The Jets fell 6-1 to the St. Albert Merchants Friday night and lost 8-6 to the Beverly Warriors on Sunday.

The Jets affiliate goalie Austin Witter, whose first CJHL starter resulted in a shutout against the Stony Plain Flyers the week before, had a little tougher time Friday, allowing six to get to the back of the net. The Jets remained scoreless through two periods, finally capitalizing seven minutes into the final frame.

Sunday’s outing against the Beverly Warriors resulted in similar disappointment with an 8-6 loss, but the Jets put forth a strong effort in the third. Trailing the Warriors 3-2 at the end of the opening frame, the Jets fell 7-3 by the end of the second. The club managed to close the gap considerably in the final 20 minutes, but fell two short of sending the contest into overtime.

The Jets have four games remaining in the regular season, three of those at home. The club takes on the Sherwood Park Knights at home Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m., travel to Stony Plain Friday night to take on the Flyers, then return to the Ray McDonald Sports Centre Feb. 10 to take on the Red Wings. The final game of the regular season is Feb. 12 against the Beverly Warriors. Game time is 8:30 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
