Morinville – The Jets came back from a trilogy of February losses to earn back-to-back wins over the weekend. The Jets defeated the Stony Plain Flyers 5-1 Friday night and followed it with a 6-4 victory over the North Edmonton Red Wings Sunday night. The victories brought the club’s record to 23-14-0 and placed them in fifth place in the CJHL’s West Division.

The old saying – it’s not over until the fat lady sings – hit a little close to home for the Jets Sunday night. Leading 2-0 after one and 4-1 after two, the Jets backstop Michael Brown got punted from the game for some comments made to one of the game’s linesmen.

That eviction from the crease resulted in Midget AA affiliate Austin Witter playing the final frame in net. Witter gave up one goal 17 seconds into the third, but held the Red Wings off until 7:50, allowing them to bring the game within one of a tie.

Nick Pratt pulled the Jets ahead with a shorthanded goal with 1:04 in the game to bring the contest to 6-4 in Morinville’s favour. Though the Red Wings answered back with two seconds on the clock, the contribution was one too few to push it to overtime.

The Jets wrap up the season Tuesday night with a home game against the Beverly Warriors. Game time is 8:30 at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
