Morinville – The Promethean Activ Classroom in Motion, a 36-foot mobile technology enabled education experience on wheels, arrived in Morinville Thursday morning for a day of learning and hands-on experience for the students and staff at Morinville Public Elementary School (MPES).

The multi-screen technology used in classrooms at MPES was introduced in 2012 and Promethean’s ActivTable was named Highly Commended Digital Device at the 15th annual Bett Awards held January 2013 in London, England.

Sherine Mani Promethean Experimental Marketing Manager for the company demonstrated for staff and students some of the pre-loaded activities on the ActivTable, including the Heroes of Space and Invention, Space Discovery Timeline, the Music Maker, Jigsaw puzzles and sentence structures.

Students participated in numerous activities on the electronic learning equipment. The Grade 2 class had a short lesson on vertebrate and non-vertebrate animals. By touching the screen with the pen, they could pull up the picture of the animal and the x-ray icon allowed them to see the bones of the animal.

The technology allows students a new kind of learning. It is hands-on experience in 3-D. They can dissect a frog and never get dirty, pick a petal from a flower or look into the human body.
