Lady Wolves ranked second at zones

Submitted

The MCHS Sr Girls basketball team competed in the North Central Zone Championships in Edson over the weekend. The Lady Wolves went into the tourney as the #1 ranked team in the zone.

Due to their high ranking the girls received a first round bye at zones. It is hard to know if that helped or not but the girls played a fantastic defensive game in defeating the host Parkland Pacers 49-31. Not all was good news as the Lady Wolves lost their top rebounder – Arinn Young – to a knee injury in the first two minutes of the game. It was hard on the team to see Arinn’s injury but they girls kept their focus.

In the zone final the girls met the Edwin Parr Predators who they have 1 win and 1 loss against this season. The Lady Wolves started slow and fell behind early. Edwin Parr built confidence from their early lead and never looked back. MCHS could not get anything going offensively and they lost by a 54-30 score.

With their second place finish the Lady Wolves have qualified for the Alberta School’s Athletic Association High School Girls Provincial Championships in Strathmore. The Lady Wolves will go into the Provincial Championships ranked 7th in the province. The girls have worked hard all season and are looking forward to the Provincial competion.

Name: Alexander Yeo
Team: Initiation 2
Years Played: 1
Number: 9

Alex is always excited to go to the rink and really works hard when he is out there. He is a great team player that just wants to have fun, pass the puck and try his very best, all while trying to do it his way! He always wants to learn new skills and has learned so much in such a short time. He is working on his backwards skating and stick handling – but he is very enthusiastic about learning. Alex is very soft spoken and such a great concerned teammate!
