Letter: Open house to discuss Legal ambulance

Dear Residents of Legal:

On April 1, 2013, Alberta Health Services (AHS) will assume responsibility for direct delivery of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from the Legal and District Ambulance Service (LDAS). Currently, LDAS is a volunteer service that is providing response for the Legal area under contract to AHS.

First, we would like to relay our gratitude to LDAS and the volunteers for their commitment to providing care and support to the residents of their community. Second, I would like to assure you that access to timely, appropriate service will be maintained during the transition. Patient care is our highest priority.

Under AHS, Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances from Morinville will respond to local ambulance requests. These ambulances are staffed with at least one paramedic who has expanded training and can provide advanced procedures including medication administration and cardiac or respiratory treatment. This is a higher level of service than the level currently provided by the volunteer service.
AHS also operates a borderless system that ensures the closest available ambulance is sent to an emergency. This ensures the quickest response to all emergencies.

With the change in service provision in the Legal region we are confident that you will benefit from the consistent ALS response available to the community.

After the transition, AHS will continue to monitor call volumes and response times in the greater Legal area to ensure high quality service and system performance is maintained to Legal and area residents.

If any further information is desired, please email me directly at Dale.Weiss@albertaheatlhservices.ca or attend a public information session that will be held on April 9th, 7:00 pm at the Centralta Community Centre, 5109 – 46 Street, Legal.

Sincerely
Dale Weiss
