Morinville – The Junior B Morinville Jets gathered at the Morinville Curling Club Saturday night to reflect on the Capital Junior Hockey League’s 2012/2013 season. The annual year-end dinner and awards night was an opportunity to recognize the club’s accomplishments over the year, recognize the players that rose to the top, and pay further respect to the memory of Nick McRae (No. 11) who passed away in September of 2012.

That tribute to former Jets’ Captain Nick McRae took a permanent form with the introduction of the Nick McRae Scholarship Award, a $500 scholarship sponsored by Cantalta Roofing, Al Fraser, Don and Teresa McRae, Scott Rodda, and the Jets organization. The first recipient was Morinville Jet Tyler Kampjes.

Another award, created in the late captain’s memory is the Nick McRae Coaches’ Award, sponsored by the McRae family. It was presented this year to Matt McRae.

The evening’s ceremonies included several awards. Both the CJHL League and Jets Lady Byng trophies were presented to Brady McCorriston. Other Jets awards included the Top Scorer Award and Rookie of the Year, both presented to Travis Geislinger; the Unsung Hero Award, presented in memory of Tony Schaefer to Cody Reiger; the Vista Homes Top Forward Award, presented to Wayne Gatza; the Joe Kapitze Memorial Top Defenseman Award, presented to Kyle Sheehan; the Morinville Legion’s MVP Award, presented to Nick Pratt; and the Jet Electric MVP Playoffs Awards, presented to Mike Brown and Travis Geislinger.

Matt McRae and Justin Proulx received awards for being the club’s most improved players.

This season’s graduating players were each presented with their team jerseys. Leaving the Jets organization this season were Derek McLean (No. 20), Kyle Sheehan (No. 24), and Jorey McRae (No. 6).
